In April 2023, the TCC took part in the conference on Access to Justice, Technology, and Courts in Asia, organized by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Singapore, as part of the Rule of Law Programme Asia. This conference aimed to facilitate discussions among judges, legal professionals, and academics across Southeast Asia on the profound impact of technology on the administration of justice. A wide range of topics was discussed, including AI sentencing, human judges and AI collaboration, access to justice and digitalization, the implementation of court technology, routinization and depersonalization of justice, and digital rights. As the delegate of the TCC, Research Judge Yi-Yi Lee presented reflections regarding the technology of the sentencing system in Taiwan, providing the constitutional implications based on case laws of the TCC concerning the establishment of a sentencing system utilising digitalised or AI databases. Throughout the conference, participants shared their experiences and insights, discussing the challenges encountered in the integration of technology in achieving justice and presenting proposed solutions and reflections from their respective countries.
