On October 3, 2023, the Judicial Yuan and the Taiwan Constitutional Court welcomed the visit of Prof. Dr. DDr. h.c. Matthias Herdegen, Director of the Institute for Public International Law and Institute for Public Law at Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn. During his visit, Prof. Herdegen delivered a speech on “Die Rolle der Verfassungsgerichtsbarkeit: aktuelle Herausforderungen unter besonderer Berücksichtigung der Annahme von Verfassungsbeschwerden” (originally in German, translated into Chinese by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ching-Hui Chen), in which he focused on the contemporary challenges towards constitutional jurisdiction, the balance of interests of the courts, and recent developments of unremunerated freedoms in the decisions of the Federal Constitutional Court of Germany (Bundesverfassungsgericht).
